You'll also perform flight tests and explore advanced customization options, giving you the skills to create and optimize drones.

Day 1: Introduction to Drones and Components

  • Overview of Drone, their evolution, and various types

  • Different frame types, weight considerations, material selection.

  • Identifying & understanding the purpose of each component used in a Drone

  • Introduction to Sensors and Control Systems

  • Safety and Regulatory Considerations

  • Drone Manufacturing Process Overview

  • Disassemble and Inspect a Drone (Hands-on)

  • Checking for wear and tear, identifying defective parts


Day 2: Drone Design and Mechanics

  • Drone Frame Design

  • Principles of Flight - Lift, drag, thrust, and weight

  • Understand the drone motions roll, pitch and yaw and how the various propellers impact these motions

  • Understand thrust to weight ratio of a drone and how the propellers help in controlling the same

  • Motor and Propeller Selection

  • Power Distribution and Battery Management

  • Assembling a Basic Frame (Hands-on)

  • Testing and Adjustments (Hands-on)


Day 3: Drone Electronics and Control Systems

  • Introduction to Flight Controllers

  • Sensors and Calibration

  • Installing the Flight Controller (Hands-on)

  • Drone Control Systems and Remote Control Setup

  • RC Setup and Calibration (Hands-on)

  • Configuring flight parameters (PID tuning, altitude limits)

  • Flight logs and analyzing performance data


Day 4: Drone Assembly and Integration

  • Overview of power requirements for different drone types

  • Role of power distribution boards (PDBs) and wiring harnesses

  • Types of drone batteries (LiPo, Li-ion)

  • Battery voltage, capacity, and flight time considerations

  • Safety Measures in Power Systems

  • Assemble the Drone components as per desirable industry practices and as per drawings

  • Wiring the Drone (Hands-on)

  • Installing GPS and Telemetry Systems

  • Final Drone Assembly (Hands-on)

  • Pre-Flight Testing and Troubleshooting (Hands-on)


Day 5: Testing, Flight, and Advanced Customization

  • Understanding Different Flight Modes

  • Configuring Flight Modes in the Controller

  • Customizing Flight Controller Settings

  • Pre-Flight Checklist

  • Performing a hover test to check stability and responsiveness

  • Testing throttle response, yaw, and roll in stabilized mode

  • Retrieving flight data from the flight controller

  • Identifying potential issues with motor speeds, voltage drops, or sensor errors

  • Waypoint navigation and mission planning

  • Using ground control software to configure autonomous missions

  • Altitude hold, terrain following, and precision landing

  • Understanding the effect of PID values on flight characteristics

  • Outdoor Flight Test (Hands-on)

  • Checking motor and ESC performance

  • Inspecting the frame, arms, and propeller integrity

  • Ensuring battery health (storage, charging, and usage)
