Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) design for BLDC/PMSM motors. This role focuses on end-to-end ESC hardware design, along with development of other power electronics subsystems used in advanced applications such as UAVs, robotics, and electric propulsion systems.
The ideal candidate should be capable of independently designing, prototyping, testing, and refining high-current, high-reliability ESCs, and working closely with firmware teams. Experience with AM32 firmware is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
ESC Design (Primary Responsibility)
- Design and develop BLDC/PMSM ESC hardware from concept to production
- Typical operating range:
- Voltage: 6S–12S (24–60 V)
- Current: 40A–100A+
- Design and validate:
- MOSFET-based power stages
- Gate driver circuits (bootstrap, dead-time, protection features)
- Current sensing (shunt / inline / Hall-based)
- Voltage, temperature, and fault protection circuits
- Support control interfaces such as PWM, DShot, UART, and CAN (DroneCAN)
Firmware Coordination
- Work closely with firmware engineers on AM32-based ESC firmware
- Support hardware–firmware integration, tuning, and debugging
- Assist in telemetry, fault reporting, and performance optimization
Other Power Electronics Responsibilities
- Design supporting power electronics including:
- DC–DC converters (buck / boost / auxiliary rails)
- Battery input protection (reverse polarity, surge, TVS, soft-start)
- Power distribution and filtering circuits
- Perform thermal design, derating analysis, and reliability improvement
- Implement EMI/EMC mitigation through circuit design and PCB layout guidance
Prototyping, Testing & Validation
- Prototype bring-up and lab debugging
- Switching waveform analysis using oscilloscopes and current probes
- Thermal testing under load and stress conditions
- Root-cause analysis of failures and design iteration
- Support production validation and field issue resolutio
Must Documentation & Collaboration
- Prepare schematics, BOMs, design notes, and test reports
- Work with PCB layout engineers to ensure high-current layout best practices
- Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, and system teams
Education
- B.E. / B.Tech / M.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, or Power Electronics
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in power electronics
- Hands-on experience in ESC design is mandatory
- Prior experience with UAV, EV, robotics, or motor-drive systems is preferred
- Strong fundamentals in power electronics
- Practical experience with:
- MOSFET selection and loss calculations
- Gate driver design and protection strategies
- High-current PCB design concepts
- Current sensing and fault handling
- Schematic design using KiCad or Altium
- Proficiency with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, electronic loads, thermal tools)
- Experience with AM32 firmware (highly preferred)
- Familiarity with BLHeli or VESC ecosystems
- CAN / UART-based ESC telemetry
- EMI/EMC debugging experience
- Ability to review or perform PCB layout for power electronics
- Strong hands-on engineer with real-world debugging experience
- Comfortable working in lab and production environments
- Able to take ownership of ESC designs end-to-end
- Practical, detail-oriented, and reliability-focused
